Exclamation tow package ?

I Just Got A 07 F150 4.2l Auto. Now My Truck Is Supposed To Have A 6500 Lb Tow Package, Came With A Hitch And 3.55 Gear Ratio. Now I Looked Up The Max Towing Weight For The Truck And It Says 5100 Lbs.

So Im Guessing That The Gear Ratio With Out The Tow Package That I Have Is Lower...? Correct Me If Im Wrong That Would Be Great.

Another Question? I Have A Trailer With A Dry Weight Of 1500 Lbs.
Loaded With My Work Equipment It Cant Weigh Any More Than 2500.
Will This Be Ok To Pull With My Truck?

Im Pretty Sure That The 6500 Lb Tow Package Means That Is The Max Weight You Can Pull. Right?

Thanks For All Your Help And Im Sorry If Im Asking Dumb Questions.

6500 is the GrossVehicleWeightRating, truck and anything in/on it, no trailer included. 5100 is the max trailer weight which is also part of the 10,000 GrossCombinedWeightRating listed in the specs which is the truck, anything in/on it, and the trailer all together.

So, no, 5100 is your max trailer weight if you live by the specs.

that trailer you're talking about will be just fine...I'd be surprised if you really noticed it when driving.

you'll be fine... unless it's a 2500 lb parachute or something.

Well, I wouldn't go THAT far! I towed a 2500 lb boat with my '03 F150, which also had the 4.2 V6, automatic tranny. It handled it fine around town, but it could have used more power on the highway. You WILL definitely feel it in back of you, as the truck will drive like a dog. BUT, aside for taking it's sweet time getting up to speed, you should have no problems. Overall, it handled it very well, but climbing mountains at 65 MPH was never easy for it. I towed said boat from Columbus, OH to SC and back, with no problems.

As long as you aren't planning on taking frequent long trips with the trailer in tow, I think you'll be very happy with it!

I said that based on the last time I towed with my Kia Sorento. I towed a 3500lb trailer from Austin to Seattle. Other than the huge mountain passes, the car didn't notice it. I did feel it when braking though. Apple to oranges comparision I know, but if that little thing can do it, then a F-150 can/will exceed...IMO anyways.

single cab right? your truck has a better platform to tow. Yeah, your acceleration will go down, but c'mon. a 2500 lb trailer isn't anything for our trucks. even the v-6

don't worry about hurting it. my 98 F-150 had the 3.0 v-6 with a stick and I regularly put 1000-1500lbs of concrete in it. got a little light in the front, but it took everything I could throw at it with no problems except low MPG

the frame/drivetrain you've got now can handle ALOT more abuse. if your going to tow 5000lb +, I would get a trailer with a trailer brake though.

Typing every word with the first letter being a capital has GOT to be a pain in the ****

Looks kinda neat though

Congrats on your new truck. You'll love it!

Oh, and on the tow weight question; you won't have any problems hauling that much weight in the least.
