I just replaced the TRS in my van, and now it won't crank. Looking at a manual, I see I should have disconnected the battery negative first, but I didn't. Just unbolted in park, shifted to neutral, disconnected bolts and wiring harness, then swapped in the new one. There is a hum when I first turn on the key (fuel pump ?), but it won't crank in neutral or park (or any other gear). Swapped the old one back in, everything aligned for neutral - still won't crank. Did I damage something by not disconnecting the battery ? Any suggestions ? Thanks for any help.
No, you didn't damage anything. You just don't have it adjusted correctly. The adjustment is easiest with two people. One to turn the key and the other to move the MLP.
Thanks ! Best to adjust in neutral ? Or should I tweak it while in park ?
I geuss the starter lockout must be separate from the fuel pump ? That seems odd.
Actually, that's not odd at all, now that I think about it - fuel pump still needs a feed when in gear too. Doh ! Is one position better than the other for adjustment though ? That adjustment must be why I noticed the old one wasn't lined up exact on the neutral marks when I pulled it.
Okay, I did that, and it won't start. Then I tried adjusting it within the range allowed by the retaining bolts, and I still can't get it to crank. How finnicky is this adjustment ? Any tips for me ?
