4.2L Belt tensioner
Hey all! I have a 1999 f 150 4x2. I heard a noise coming from the front of my truck and thought it was the belt tensioner. I removed it and found out it wasn't were the noise was coming from. Well when I tried to put it back on it was either the nut was too tight or too loose, or the pulley wouldn't spin. Then after a few failed attemptsI figured out the washer was bent and I went without it. Now when I try to put the serpentine belt back on it seems too short. I know I have to bring the tensioner up to get the frigging belt on. But when I try to bring it up it seems to be getting shorter instead of loose like it was when I started. Someone please help me before I get out my sledgehammer. Please, Please! Oh and by the way the racket I am hearing is the fan clutch. Duh!

I wish I could help but have never had one apart.
I'd say your best bet would be try comparing yours to another one. A side-by-side deal.
It can be a pain to get the belt on, even on a good day.
You might see if you could get your hands on a parts break down. See how everything goes together and maybe see if you did something wrong.
Best of luck!
