High Flow cats for OBD-II

Hey Folks,

Anybody know of a high flow cat setup for the 1996 351 OBD-II Bronco? It's got the dual cat setup and I'm afraid to touch the damn things.

1996 351 Auto

I have a 95 bronco with a 5.8 and do not have to pass emissions. Will it screw up the computer if i removed the cats all together?
I realize that this will give me more power and gas milege, if it does not affect the computer. I just realized how much i DESPISE computer controlled engines. Give me a carb any day.

I wouldn't do that simply due to the reduced backpressure. Your computer expects a certain amount of backpressure to go along with the parameters set up in the PCM. If those parameters aren't met, you definitely won't get more power or improved gas mileage from the setup unless you get a custom chip. Even then, I can't see where a 200HP engine would benefit from anything beyond a 2 chamber cat back system, maybe some headers. Especially if you don't have MAF up front...the computer has no way to compare air coming in to the extra air leaving.

Just my .02.

AS for power...it used to be(in the 1970's) that if you out true duals on a car and took off the cats, you could get 15% more hp. I have 215hp now, so this would give me about 32 more hp plus around 5-7 more mpg. This is a lot of power for that ammount of $$$

The good old days....

There are things you can still do. Bump the base timing up a bit, if you don't live in a cold climate bypass the coolant from the throttle body, a cat back system has netted me a few extra HP along with a K&N filter. Some shorty headers with O2 flanges would be nice, provided they're coated (you wouldn't want your engine to get unusually hot and trick the computer into backing off the timing).

Bla bla bla. Good luck.
