Is it possible to convert my current F350 Springs to 450 spring set up on my 1995 F350 XLT 4x4? Or would adding a leaf or two do the same thing? I think my springs are strong, but I am doing it more for appearence, the trucks rear end only sits slightyl higher than the front, so when towing it looks quite odd, or the back is easily weighed down looking from the front, making towing annoying because I am on a incline in my seat. Whats the easiest way to go about getting the rear end higher, while maximizing strength.
Air bags would work well to level the truck while towing. I ran a set of Firestone air bags on my '95 F-250 for the same reason. The air bags were installed when the truck was new and worked fine for years.
Driving 3/4 ton, and 1 ton trucks empty is rough enough as it is, adding more srings makes it even worse. The factory used several different blocks under the rear spring. If you find one that is slightly higher than what you have now would solve your problem, and maintain the ride that you currently have.
Bags would serve the same purpose with the adjustability for different loads.
I would take out leaves until you get the ride you want...then block it to make it set level....then add an airbag for when you tow. I know it involves a little more work, but you would have the best of both worlds.
If you take leafs out you loose capacity. If your squatting a F350 that much you must be towing/hauling a rather large load, and lower capacity is not the way to go.
I dunno guys. I dont tow excessively often. the load I tow the other day was a 6,300 pound skid steer on a dual axel trailer, so its not a tremendous load by any means, but I am just looking for something to make the truck ride higher in the back without anyloads. As it stands now, the front is high, then the truck sort of goes back down as it gets towards the end, I just like to give it a nice sporty look when I am not towing either. Will a bigger shock do anything?
If the rear is lower than the front unloaded, I'd venture a guess that the rear springs are shot and need replaced entirely. New, most 4x4s were 2-4" higher in the rear.
so what about the original question concerning f450 springs
I would like to increase my f250's load capacity also since
the drivetrain is nearly the same as the 450's, or not?
I think there concern was for the driver in terms of the hassle of the buck board ride a 450 spring would cause, but i think use 350 drivers really wouldnt notice it
