Any of you guys have tires with ratings higher than "E"?.......Or is there such a thing (in the general "civilian" world) that your average joe has access to. I've got a 2000 psd with 75R16 265s (Uniroyal)....and I believe they're 10 (or 12) ply tires. I guess they're standard on heavy-dutys...or at least diesels...because of the weight, but have any of you guys upgraded? (without making the tires so damn big that they're not practical for everyday use also). I'm looking to get 285s...and I wonder if y'all have any ideas of good brands that might be load range "F" (or whatever a higher rating might be).....
The "E"s generally work.....I carry a camper, however, and the occasional heavy load of oak or landscaping soil, and I've noticed that even the "E"s look a little stressed......
Any thoughts? (p.s. I want the wider 285 footprint for the occasional...several times/year...use on the coast....sand)....
I am currently running "D" rated tires on my 350. It is more about the max load rating in pounds than the letter designation. The "D's" I am running have the same max weight rating as the "E's" that were on the truck.
You can get higher rated tires if you change the wheels to 19.5". However, I kinda doubt that you really need more than E. For a heavy load just put in more air (unless you're already at 80 psi)
There are 14 ply tires available in a 235/85-16, at least. I know one big ranch that runs them on everything (several pickups and trailers) and a few others, too. 235's are the only size I've seen, but they look bigger - without checking the size, I was guessing them to be 255's. I'll try to find out what brand(s) they are and let you know.
