Two months ago "Green" was "Green" Alien with the Roswell article. In this month's (actually it's the July 2007 issue that just came in the mail) off road magazine article "Green" is "Green" Ghost.
Not a bad article either. I just meet Larry somewhere and we ride around for a few days or a week then I wait for the article(s) to make it into publication. Some times I have to look at the pictures again and re-read the article to believe that it was actually the trip I was on.
Looks like "Green" has traded places with "Jr." for a while. Guess a name change is in order to: Back Yard Green. Not sure what I'll do to it yet. Might even see bout havein the M5OD rebuilt and put it back. Get some of my MPG back that way. Maybe have the C-5 rebuilt and put back in "Jr." with the doubler. For a while it seems it'll be Back Yard Art Green though. Just how long peds on how "Jr." does.
I did get my July issue of 4 Wheel Drive and Green made another lead off two page photo for the second article on the Overland Stage Larry wrote.

just got my july issue and I can't seem to find the green.
I just brought this up from the dead. The quote was from last year when (July 2007-Off-Road Magazine) Green had the M5OD and we were in AZ. This years (July 2008-4 Wheel Drive Magazine) has Green in it again when we were in OK for the Overland/Butterfield Stage story. It's on page 50.
Guess trannys don't like me. Std. or Auto's. Greens C-5 died on Arch Canyon trail in Utah last month and Clint had to drive out and drag me and Green home. Jr. has a Free Bee FM 145 in it and is running for now. But it makes noise. The tranny sounds bad above 2000 RPM and the lifters in the engine won't stay pumped up at highway speeds.
So I drive Jr. around for a while till I can decide what to do or till Jr.'s tranny or engine goes.
I decided to have the C-5 rebuilt for Green. This is the one that was in old Blue and loaned out for a while. I had trouble with it and most of it was my own doing. Anyway Clint had a really low quote to get it done from a shop he knows. Much lower than the folks who did the last two for me. Clint took it in early this week. Looks like it was not done the way I wanted it when It was rebuilt the first time. It had the weeker three clutch pack instead of the stronger 5 clutch pack in it. And the pump needs to be replaced. So a bit more for the stronger 5 clutch basket and new pump. But I hope it's the way I want it this time. Just gonna go back with it the way it is now. C-5, T&M Doubler, and 1354 Electric t-case. That's the cheepest way to do it. No drive shaft work to deal with that way. Hope to have it back on the road Next month (next week).
Sounds like a good plan to me Jack. If the tranny gets done right this time, that at least should be solid. How strong is the 1354 transfer case? If it is strong that should make a good all around rig.
I have not had any t-case trouble. I have run the 1350/1354 in a number of trucks. Behind the 302, 4.0, 2.9 and 2.8. But it is a chain driven aluminum case unit. And it has a decent low range. Not as strong as a gear driven Dana 20, 300, or 203/205. But fine for what I do. If I were going to compete or drive my truck like I was playing a video game I would most likely look for something else. But as long as the t-case is not abused (run without oil or improper driveshaft lenth) it does fine in the little Fords. I have read that after about 93 they went to a stronger 6 planetary over the 4 planetary. And that the shift fork was changed from metal to Nylon. Most say the nylon shift fork is durable and not a problem.
Thanks Curtis. My foot is still the same. Still there and mostly hurts. But thats not really anything I'm not used too.
More stuff fell off of Green tonight. T-case skid plate, y-pipe and exhaust, starter, front driveshaft, tranny shift linkage, doubler shifter, and I think the tranny dipstick tube. Clints worked hard tonight. He has some of the other bolts loose I think.
Clint did a bunch more work last night. The t-case and doubler are out. One bolt and one tranny line is holding the tranny in. Clint says the bell housing is moving from the tranny! Not a good thing. That means either the bolts holding the bell housing and pump on the front of the tranny came loose or the bell housing is broken. We'll just have to see when we get it out. The other tranny is not back from the rebuilder yet. Not much left to do to get it out though. May end up cutting a tranny line as Clint can' get it to break loose. I have another bell if that one is broken. If the bolts backed that's another bad on the old rebuilder.
