As many of you know, my truck time took a back seat. I now have to play catchup. I finished wiring the inside of cab today. I still have to hook up the wires for back up lights. Did our trucks have a backup switch. If not I am going to put my own switch in for it. I will use a nice looking toggle switch. I want to put some extra backup lights on anyway. I want to be able to see where I am going. I am not sure where I will mount them until wrecker body goes on on WEd. I also put in dome light switches on the doors. They are old style ground attivated type. I put a light under dash on each side of cab as well. I now have about 10 hours in the wiring job. It seems like that is way too many though. I was a little **** about putting wire loom over everything and using electrical tape to keep it in place. I still have to get a muffler on tomorrow. I will drop it off in the am and pick it back up after 2.30 pm.
Next question is could some one post a picture of how the horn mounts to the hood. I cant seem to remember. I would like one on each side as I have extras.
I am also putting wrecker lights on top of the wrecker body. I put in a toggle switch for that as well. I am putting two extra toggle switches in now for later use.
Tomorrow's agenda is work from 7.00 am until 3.00 pm. I will then install the seats frame and seats.
What have you done for seat belts. I want some that just bolt to the floor for now. I need some advice on this part.
Again I would like to thank everyone for the kind words of encouragement. The passing of my dad has been extremely difficult for me. I feel like there was so much more for us to do together. I guess everyone son would feel the same no matter when their dad passes.
I used the horns off my donor car (87 Chrysler) and mounted them in the area in front of the radiator and to one side. They are much smaller than the original horns so there is plenty of room there to do that. I used my original starter push button for a horn button.
I bought lap belts from NAPA. They come with all the necessary hardware but if you attach them through an unreinforced part of the floor I'd add a piece of 1/4 inch plate underneath to be sure the bolts won't pull through the sheet metal in the event of an accident.

They didn't have a backup switch. Good idea with the wrecker to have a light, though.
My horn mounts to the side of the radiator support. There are two holes and they aim the horn so it points right into those louvers in the headlight support.
I have seen two diff. horn arangements personally. One which is what my driver had was a single trumpet horn that mounted to the inside of the hood on the pass. side. The other that I saw on a parts truck I had was two spitoon looking horns that mounted in front of the radiator.
Yea Kevin gets' his wrecker bed tomorrow--alright!!!I think it will look great! I am not sure if I am taking my truck,now--might just take the camper van and live thru ksmiths looks he will get with his rig--I was up all night and need to get some sleep!!I am still not done---crap!!!!
Bill you still have 7 full days to work on it. You can make it. If not, I will not be able to stay up with Jim. Mr4spd where are you Andrew. I have not heard from you for a while. Are you still going with us?
Now an update:
I installed 5 toggle switches tonight. I will use one for backup lights, one for cb radio, one for lights on the wrecker body, one for the beacons on wrecker, and have a spare for something else. I still need to mount the switch for the heater motor, but that will not take long. I will be putting in seat frame in the am and dropping off truck at muffler shop. He said it would be done by 3.00. I will then take the truck for the wrecker bed install by 4.00. He said it would take an hour to put it on. He wants to go slow. I will then need to drill holes for final mount on Friday. I will be driving it from then till Wednesday. If all goes well, I will make the trip in it to Nationals.
I dont remember who told me what size bolts the seat bolts down with. If you know could you post it again. I am going to look back through my posts. Pics in tomorrow.
