Diesel conversion?

I have a 1971 F-250 that the 360 motor is shot in. I would like to convert to diesel for obvious reasons of torque and fuel consumption. I have no idea what would be required to accomplish this. Is there anyone out there who has done this and/or knows what is required and if it is worth doing?

Go to the local scrappy and find a truck with an oilburner in it. Buy it. Transplant it. Drive it.

Go here:

And also look further into the Engine Swap threads.

Others will chime in, but my advice to someone who states they have no idea what/how/etc to do such a swap is to trade the truck off on a later model oilburner. You are basically rebuilding the front half of the truck. Then, if your gearing doesn't agree with the oilburner, you get to do that as well.

Worth it? You'll never be able to drive such a beast long enough to recover the costs via the difference in fuel mileage. Remember, if your 360 is worn out, the rest of the truck must at least be halfway there. Noting that it is a '71, it is probably more than halfway there. Add the weight and vibration and torque-twisting of an oilburner, and it will not be long before other issues surface.
