Do any you guys gas stations that sell diesel fuel have the cetane rating on the pump? I think I have only seen one station in my area that does and it just says a minimum of 40 Cetane rating.
I also thouht i watched a video on the 6.4 Diesels and it said it required a minimum cetane rating of 45.
I guess i'm just wondering how many stations in ya'lls area actually has the rating on the pump? Doesn't seem odd that ford would say the truck should require more of a cetane rating then whats on most pumps? Just thinking out loud i reckon.
I've never seen cetane rating listed on the pump anywhere on the west coast from California to British Columbia. The few times I've asked the attendant if they knew the cetane rating, all I got was a deer in the headlights.
all the diesel fuel you wil find is the samestuff. most of it is moved around the country in pipe lines. all the refinerys pump it in and then it is destributed to diferent suppiers. i used t haul pipe line cleaner /coating stuff that would be put in the pipe lines and run up stream between "pigs"...i learned a lot about how these products were moved and how they were mixed and distributed. belive me, 99% of your diesel is all the same. as far as cetane rating,,you are just wsting your money on cetane boosters. i saw this proved on a dyno some years ago. a 350 ncumming was run with and without booster. no difffernce in hp.

You said it, years ago... Things are a little different today, especially when it comes to the 6.0L and 6.4L. Ford recommends a minimum 45 cetane rating for these motors, yet the government only requires fuel producers to meet a minimum 40 rating. This is ashame when you have motors that love cetane.
Myself I used to run BP/Amoco Premier diesel which was definately different than the 99% of the diesel that you speak of. My truck still runs good with ULSD and cetane booster, but nothing like the Premier diesel with its minimum 50 cetane rating.
