I'm in the process of looking for a used diesel pickup truck. Since I have always been a Ford person, I would like to get an F250 diesel. I had heard that EPA changed emissions requirements for this class of vehicle recently, and that the new requirements hurt fuel economy. Logically, I would like to get the last model year made before the change.
Can anyone shed any light on when the last change in emissions requirements came into effect?
Also, what engine/transmission combinations were offered for various years? I would be interested mostly in '98 and up.
I have watched the posts in this group for quite a while and maybe I've got the wrong idea, but starting '99 with the new cab, started trouble.... '97 and older, transmissions were weak, and the newer ones with the extra torque were a needed upgrade, but the overall '99 & newer trucks seems to have more faults than the '94 to '97...I'm not trying to start anything, that's what I've gotten from the many posts on this forum......Just M.H.O.
Only problems have been 1 injector$800 (replaced wiring harness from TSB recommendations also) , e-brake cable $13, sway bar mount$13, and A/C Clutch$200
I have 250,000 miles and am very happy with the truck
Andy.
When I was looking for my truck, even the salesman told me there were no 99's.... Is yours the old style cab or the new style??With that kind of mileage, you must never shut it off...It's good to hear about that kind of service...
Thanks!
Well that would explain why I haven't seen any '98s out there. Based on what I have heard of the auto trannys, I was hoping to get a manual. What manual trannys were offered? Any problems with any of them?
I have a 94 PSD (first year, it doesn't even say powerstroke :-(
and it has 252,000+ miles and is running great. 5 speed backing it up. Never has had a clutch done on it. Tranny has never been touched. Engine runs strong. Other than an oil leak somewhere under the turbo all its ever had is PS pump and water pump. No injectors or even the O rings. Doesn't smoke at all unless at startup and its stone cold. This truck is the best. Now my 150 with a 302. We won't go there.
All of them are good. 98.9% of all Powerstrokes are still on the road. Generally, you're going to see people say "my group is the best." The fact seems to be that they just get better with each passing year.
