Auto Hubs and Rubber Boot
Behind the hubs on my 96 there is a rubber boot the drive axle goes through. About the only way I could see it is by removing the disk caliper. It appears to be flush up against the back side of the hub. Lately while driving very slowly there is an annoying off and on, not very high pitch sound that I believe is coming from this area. Turning the hub I noticed the boot does not rotate with the hub. I thought it was odd to have a non-moving rubber boot up against moving metal. And is there a website with detailed drawings on these auto hubs? My Haynes and Chilton manuals are too vague.

Forget the previous message, I'm stupid. I went ahead and removed the hub/rotor assembly from my 96 and the so called boot is just another dust seal. I'm glad I took it apart myself. I was very suprised at how easy it was to work on. I am a little concerned about the durability of a plastic ring with a spring around it.
