move to somewhere where your truck won't get stolen. make your truck as ugly as possible, then noone will want it. i have an 83 ranger from when i was up north, faded paint, rust and rot galore. i leave the keys in it. nobody wants it, but me.

I just take the working rotor out of the distributor and install a non working one and the truck simply will not start. I really don't think a thief will take or have the time to track down the problem. Besides, even if someone is lucky enough to find the problem, will they have the part on them?

Also, a rotor will fit in your pocket.

Unless the hood won't open.

These days I am more worried of someone in a tow truck with dollies doing the theft for stripping......not someone going for a joy ride.

Locking Hood

Ignition disconnect

Steering wheel Bar

Alarm system

Alarm system stickers

......all useless when someone has a tow truck doing the deed.

Otherwise you are only keeping honest thieves at bay.

You know how many threads on FTE about no start have been from >>> Ignition disconnection device ?

Wouldn't even need dollies for 4wd or manual trans. Auto takes just a few moments longer to pop the linkage.

A mod for the door-locks would be helpful -- they're a joke. Removing the lock-ring from the steering-column, if equipped, makes it a further PITA. Or installing one, and always, always park with the wheels cranked. Park with the front inaccessible to another vehicle. Lock the hood in some fashion -- I picked up several 70s vehicles a couple summers ago due to missing carbs.

Nothing will stop a determined tow-truck, but you can definitely make things difficult.

I like the coil switch or fuel line shutoff valve ideas. But if someone really wants it they are gonna take it. Me, I have security cameras set up so if someone decides to help themselves it will be recorded.

Its been said a hundred times, nothing will stop a determined thief. However, I think our trucks are often stollen because the are so easy to steel. A simple ignition kill switch is still much better than nothing. For more serious theft prevention, How about a denver boot? can't tow it or drive it. I also have been considering Lojack or some other tracking system. The good news on those, is hopefully, if someone stole my truck, there would be a good chance of catching the SOB. Of course they would probably only spend a night in jail with a slap on the wrist, but that is a whole different story!

I have an electric fuel pump on mine. Only I know what all of my switches go to, so if anyone tries to take my truck they will get about 20ft down the road and it will die.

My friends Dad did that to himself...he was going away for a few years, and wired a kill switch into the ignition circuit so no one could start his truck.

He came home and couldn't start it either. Had half the truck apart when he found the switch that HE installed...

I think it would be better to put a disconnect on the power to the Duraspark Module rather than the coil. There are way to many wires running in there to trace out and the truck wouldn't go nowhere.
