Anti-theft device..do-it-yourself.

I'm considering installing a DIY anti-theft switch somewhere in my cab to cut off power to the PCM. Is there any info or ideas in this regard on this forum that anybody may know of? Before I innovate I'd like to know what others have done to avoid mistakes/problems and not reinvent what already exists. Thanks in advance.

Hmm
Interesting idea. definately useful, as we all know about bearhunters tragedy

maybe a hidden switch to kill the cps?
It would definately disable the truck

Well you are not going to want to kill KAM power to the pcm or you will constantly get a code.

Easiest way to keep the truck from cranking is kill the signal from the CPS. Pin 21 and 22 in the PDF. A low resistance Keyed switch (Drink Box Type) should work well.

After thinking a little i believe i would steer away from pin 21. PCM monitors voltage from CPS to determine TDC and it would not take much drop to throw off timing. Pin 22 is ground it should be a little more forgiving.

This might not be a good thing to post where everyone can see.

well, i do not know the location, but an inline switch to cut the power to the IDM/relay would be sufficient. truck would light up and ding, but no start.

That woul dbe kinda like leaving the alarm blueprints on the front door wouldn't it.

As long as a good key switch is used the wires can be routed so noone could access them without removing the dash.

Same effect but a little more complictaed to wire up since you would have to get inside of the junction box under the hood

Yes, but doesn't that mean that it would be that harder to override if i were someone that wanted your truck too much?

Depends on where you tap into the cps circuit, many possibilities. Now accessing the IDM circuit at the IDM under the fender well is an interesting possibility, the wiring could be ran inside the factory harness an no one would know its there.

Not wanting to give away the safe combo, but a hidden switch for the fuel pump will do the trick as well as anything except for the most determined thief. If done properly, this will deter most thefts. Some will still slip by but that is getting into the determined thief. If you have that much in your rig, you ought to have insurance to cover it.

Wouldn't it be just as easy to place a switch to shut off the lift pump?

No fuel, no fun.

Don't dick around with cheap alarms.

I just installed this unit about six months ago.

Did several months of research on them.

P2WSS-AS Compustar.

http://www.compustar.com/pro_securit...mote_start.htm

F'n great alarm. Remote start, two way remote. Anti Jack system. All the bell and whistles you could want. Best part, it tells you if someone is breaking into your Mule, which provides you a nice excuse to go kick some ars....

Its a little bit a challange to put in, not complicated just time consuming the first time with all the wires. If you go this route pm and all help you out.

Trust me I sleep better knowing that I have nothing to worry about.

That unit looks sweet. Where can a guy pick one up for a reasonable price?
