If you can't tell I am fustrated... Every truck I have worked on you simply lift the passenger side after removing the safety cables and then slightly pickup the tailgate and yank it to the passengers side to get it out of its aligning grommet/hinge.
I have tried a 5lb sledge on the drivers side, piveted it every angle I can think of and it still wont come off. It just moves the whole damn truck. Im about ready to use my sawzall and make a permanent modification.
I have the passenger side removed out of its aligning hinge deal. The safety cables are off... It will not come out of the drivers side hinge. I have tried pb blaster as well. I am trying to push/pull the tailgate to the passenger side to release it from the drivers side hinge.
Oh gosh.. maybe someone modded something..here goes
take the cables off. open 1/2 way approx.look on the pass side hinge you should be able to lift it out at the right angle. Make sure there isn't a theft gizmo in there..there is a slot that allows the pass side to lift out....Then you move the gate to the pass side to undo the drivers side. Look on utube maybe.
Thanks for the info. I am doing everything right, the drivers side just wont come loose. I ended up tweaking my back trying to get it off so its staying on there now for a bit longer.
Ok, just so someone else doesn't have to go through the pain I did...
Grab a propane torch and heat that hinge up for about 5 minutes. If yours isn't as bad you may not need as much heat. The rubber grommet was acting like a weld. I had to completely melt the rubber grommet inside and then with some tugging the gate finally came off!
Mine is a beotch to take off also. Honestly a 2 person job, not to mention heavy and awkward. But the super duty tailgate is one of the most stolen car parts
Hilarious...for me. I went through this exact same problem and tried the heat and even a come along. Turns out ford now has a "lock" sytem on the tailgate so it doesn't accidentally pop off while down. You open it just very slightly, then lift it off the hinge. Comes off pretty easy then! Who woulda thought??

same issue yesterday. We were finally successful with our 2016 F250. Once we lifted the Passenger side off we partially closed the tailgate and as we approached closed we slide the gate right off the driverside.
we used blocks, hammers, pry bars to no avail. Just lifted it almost closed off it came!!!
As we say in my home country I am so mad I put the shout at the sky.
But seriusly my friend calming down will help, just take a brake and play with you kids or dogs for a while, the solution will come by itself and help here from fine genttlemen
