I have a 78 ford bronco 4x4 automatic. It is the original transfer case and it works perfectly but leaks out of every hole in it. I put a new seal around the front output shaft but it didnt hold. The back is leaking as well. Has anybody else had this problem. I found a place that will either rebuild it or reseal it. What should I do? Could the shafts or bearings be messed up and causeing the seals to go out or what? What should I do?
LAST EDITED ON 18-Mar-01 AT 01:15 PM (EST)[p]I don't know much about the 78 or even transfer cases for that matter but I've got an 88 that leaked from the seals. I had them replaced and it was easy and inexpensive. So I would start by looking underneath to get a good idea of where the fluid is coming from and unless it is obvious its not just from the seals I would start there. I would also suggest that I had driveshaft problems (c.v. and balancing). So if those aren't in good condition they could at the least be contributing to the problem. Hope this helps. Unfortunately I can't be of much help beyond that. By the way it maybe helpful to specify which T-case you have. Good Luck
sorry i forgot, I think it is a tp205 or something like that. Its in the shop so i cant do the vin code thing to tell for sure. If anyone has any experience with this transfer case I would appreciate some advice on it, thanks

To rebuild the transfer case seals it is pretty straight forward. The transfer is cast iron and "bulletproof", no chains all gear driven. Check with a local transmission shop to help or do it yourself. Not a big job (until you feel the weight of that beast).
