My wife bought me a Guess 8 years ago, stainless made in the Philippines, with a white face. Nice watch, supposedly water proof. Yeah right. Not because of the fact that it was made in the Philippines, but I slipped and landed on it somehow, and it was never again water proof. Fast forward to this past December, forgot I had it on, and jumped into a pool. Soaked it, so I took it off and left it poolside to dry off. As we went back to our room, I distinctly (although drunkenly) remember putting it on our dresser. Never saw it after that. Some Mexican has it now. (Lost it in Mexico)
So, when we got home, I was in the market for a new watch. Looked at Tags. Looked at Bulovas. Looked at a couple Breitlings. Ha.
I bought my wife an Esq about 7 years ago, and figured I would get myself a matching one. But they didn't make that model anymore, so here's what I have now. A blue faced Esq Antero.
Link won't work, so I gave up on trying to post one.
I wear this watch pretty much all the time except at work. Always on the left wrist, face up.
I did have several Timex watches growing up though. My first watch was a Mickey Mouse watch when I was about 5. Then I got a Wayne Gretzky watch. From then, it was Timex up until my wife got me my Guess. I also have a cheap $8 watch from Hawaii, digital one. Got that because my "water proof" Guess watch got all misty while we were there. Too big to wear to work, but it still works so I can't throw it out.
I could probably go for a couple more nice watches though. Maybe one with a slim profile, and another Timex for work.

I carry a pocket watch (and have actually chosen brands of jeans because of the watch pocket) for everyday. I have one old one, worn for "dressing up", a modern one that I use daily, and one that clips to my belt loop that I carry sometimes. I also have a wristwatch (Timex) that I will wear once in a great while. Most of the time the band will give out or the battery will die before the watch itself actually quits on me. I like the pocket watch because it's out of my way, but easy to access when I need it.
Another thing about the watches I own is that I prefer them to have hands, not LCD displays. My wristwatch has both, but when I use it I only look at the hands. My everyday pocket watch has a cover on it, which I don't mind, I guess, but I think my next one will be an open face design.
I recall when Archie Bunker "stole" a Rolex for only $20 .... then Meathead noticed that Rolex was spelled with two X's. Back in the day, the only way to get a good, reliable timepiece was to spend some bucks, but with the quartz movements you can be on time for just a few bucks. I read a story that when Timex made a commercial ("Takes a licking and keeps on ticking") showing a Timex still running after being tied to the blade of a running outboard, they used a Rolex movement. My favorite wristwatch was a Longines Wittnauer. My favorite watches were a pair of old Elgin pocket watches that belonged to my grandfather and uncle ... I wore them on my vests with different chains and fobs.
I would like to have a nice watch but every time I get a good watch I end up busting it. I can buy one of the 10 dollar watches from Walmart and cant throw it away they will last me for a long time. My Mom has my Dads, Ball Train Master, I need to find someone to repair it. It quit shortley after he had to retire so he never had it fixed. After he passed away she found it in a box of stuff and put it up. I would like to fix it someday just to put it up. I would never wear it due to the expensive watch demon that hangs around me, thats the only way I can explain my bad luck with nice watchs.
I started this thread so I appologized for a quick jaunt off topic; but I started it because I was hinting to my wife that for my upcomming birthday I wanted an new watch, she's know about this for years because I mention it once and a while and I figured it was a fair trade for the 2K plus I spent for her birthday for something she always wanted but I thought was unnecessary...anyways she asks me what the watch costs...and she excalaims "no %$#@ way!, not for a watch"...(although is quite a bit less than I spent on her plastic sugery)...now I'm depressed for even asking ...so anways my buddy went to buy one today for himself after finding out I won't be getting one

You should tell her you took a loan out on her plastic surgery and stopped making payments. So they are comming to foreclose. I'll be willing to bet, she'll change her mind in a heart beat. Then make her by you a Rolex Presidential out of guilt and fear. HAHA
I at one time had a different watch for every day of the week, so Metrosexual eh. The vast majority of them were Canal Street(NYC) Rolexs and such. THey were fun, kept good time but I got tired of buying batteries every other month, jeez. Now I just keep 6 or 7 in circulation. NOne is very expensive, guess my Citizen Navihawk is the most expensive unless you want to count an old Seiko self winder diver style that my mom bought for me back in the early 70s. Still got it, still works.
If I was buying an "expensive" watch I would get myself one of those Brietling aviator watches or an Omega. Rolex to me is too flashy, pretentious and gives lumps on the head.
I have a few Timex's that work quite well. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
Well I had my eye on the Omega Seamaster 300 GMT, less than 1/2 the cost of a rolex and cheper than breitling (which I personally don't like, but nonetheless an excellent watch)...wife runs the books too...so she knows her face is paid for.
I have my late grandfathers' Illinois Bunn Special pocket watch. That is for looking at,
and not carrying. I wear a Casio Wave ceptor data bank, that keeps time accurate to
3 seconds a day. That is the most I need from a watch. If I had a elegant timepiece,
it would be ruined or disfigured in short order.
