And I thought I was the only one with a watch fetish

It all started when my grandfather sent me a Seiko 150m Quartz Dive from Japan in 1982. I've never seen another one like it.

The small one in the middle.

I got interested in the Quartz dive thing because everybody has a kinetic one. I found two 200m on Ebay and the rest is history lol.

Three Rip Curl Tidemasters

And a smattering of Railroad watches including a 60's vintage Bulova Accutron.

This is of course just the top drawer....lol

That's my first Seiko dive too!...I had a Factory SS braclet put on it after going through 3 rubber straps...my only complaint now is it won't glow for more than a few hours...has the old type luminecense.

As for hard on watches I'm terrible...thing is if I buy at Costco I can return it any time or get it fixed for longer than the factory two year warranty...that only comes from autorized dealers.

No watch, I've got a cell phone. I've got a couple but rarely wear them unless I'm dressing up a bit. Even then, they just don't feel right. One is a Fossil, pretty nice but nothing too fancy. The other is a German watch that was my Grandfather's. My dad gave it to me cause the original strap is too small for his wrist. We didn't realize its monetary value until very recently.

I did carry my pocket watch for a while, a phone is just as easy to look at though. Besides that, "what time it is" rarely matters to me.

I have a couple really old watches, like a pocket watch from the civil war era that belonged to some relative (wasn't direct line but like a great uncle as I recall) and one from the WWII era both still work but of coarse I don't carry them they are in a safe deposit box at this time. As to anything new, well I just can't see spending that type of coin on something like a watch, if I do buy one it's going to be a cheapie cause I am hard on things like watches I quit wearing them when I was farming they wouldn't last a week.

I can see where you are comming form on this. Nothing is like a nice watch. My wife bought me a Movado Esparanza, but I cannot make myself wear it to work. I have a Citizen Sky hawk Eco-Drive Blue Angles Edition. It is cool since I can press a button and it will change to that area's timezone. No more dial changing....

I have a Casio Databank. Regular time, world time, stopwatch, elapsed time, lights up, calculator (I like that), stores messages, phone numbers, and does all kinds of other stuff, too. Only thing it doesn't have is a secret compartment...I miss that. And it's digital!

[QUOTE= I am hard on things like watches I quit wearing them when I was farming they wouldn't last a week.[/QUOTE]

For ten years I was an ag consultant (PCA) and spent many an hour calibrating sprayers, spreaders, Anhydrous tanks, hauling chemicals, seed etc. and of course working on equipment. That was when I started getting watches rated at 200m usually because they were more rugged and overly water resistant for my work...once I went to 200m labeled watches ( a seiko and casio in particluar) then I found the beast that could at least take my abuse...still got'em 10 years later...or course most of my farmers wore rolex submariners and two wore presidentials...yes even while out in the field...my cattlemen friends however, usually don't carry watches...they're always asking me what time it is when we are branding...mostly because you get your watch smashed a lot more when dealing with cattle in the chute...some carry poket watches but he said they seem to get smashed even more often...

I used to have a 'desire' to 'tinker' with watches. (I guess I outgrew it, and moved to cars, trucks, computers and firearms!)

My Mom's brother (may he R.I.P.) used to be a jeweler and watch repairman, and owned his own jewelry store.

Well. . . being the 'inquisitive' type, I used to 'help' him repair watches.

I have taken apart a LOT of watches. No, I can't put them back together.
(You need to understand that I was just four [4] years old at the time!!!!!)

Well . . . so that I'd leave my uncle's watch repair 'station' alone and not put him deeper into the 'poor house', he gave me my own watch.
It was a Westclock "Pocket Ben" pocket watch.

I still have it!!! It is 49+ years old! It still works. (Only because I haven't taken it apart.)

Today, I wear a Seiko 'Quartz' that my wife gave me 15 years ago. (I feel naked without a watch on my wrist).
I also have a "Wenger" that I received when I reached my 25th year with my company.
I don't have a clue what either are worth. They may be expensive. . . they may be cheapies.

Both have sentimental value and keep 'good' time.

Thanks for reading.

I'm a watch guy too. I feel naked without a watch on. The watch is the last thing I take off at night and the first thing I put on in the morning. A few weeks ago I tried to get out of the habit of wearing watches (using a cell phone to tell time) and by lunch time I was racing home to put a watch on.

I guess this stems from my childhood. My mom always made me wear a watch so I can be home by a certain time with no excuses.

I like watches, but prefer the old wrist mounted sun dial.

Of course it's hard to read it when it's overcast or dark.

It also makes for a good gladiatorial weapon (E Maximus Timus)

Now, how do you people wear your watches; top of the wrist or on the bottom of the wrist (palm side)?

Anyone here have any pocket watches?

Quick story: A little friend of mine went to Mexico with his family for vacation.
He comes back and says to me, "hey Ben, I bought me a five dollar Rolex."

I wear them on top and was taught since I started wearing watches at about ten, that you wear it on your LEFT wrist!...this a weird pet peeve of mine.

My grandfather wore his palm side up and he had two very decent watches, each worth about 500.00 that were stolen as soon as he moved into the retirment home.

After posting on here I opened the safe and looked at some old watches that my other grandfather had 3 wrist and 2 pockets thatare gold. One is very nice but the crystal is broken, but you can open both the front and backs up and watch the insides while they run; and yes they still wind and work...I'm sure the older nicer one is at least a hundred years old.

I don't believe anyone said they actually wear them. They pretty much said they like them. maybe I'm wrong!

I liked the pocket watch thing. The only problem is that it is a needless accessory for me. I have my phone, so it's just redundant most of the time. Less is better for me most of time.

I've have 1 Remington and one that carries the same name as me...same brand as above, but it's cheap for some reason.

I just always feel constricted with a wrist watch on, maybe I was a prisoner in a past life or something.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a Casio calculator watch that I got as an accessory for an 80's theme party. Went over very well along with the rest of my outfit, I was the Bell of the Ball...
