I'm pretty sure that my arthritic fingers aren't getting any stronger, so my conclusion is that over the years the four bent wire clamps that hold the lid on my AIS air box have gotten weaker! I recently had the lid off, and noticed that the four clamps weren't applying equal pressure, and seemed to be a little weak in their clamping tension.
As you can see in the pic, the clamps just pop out of the groves in the lid, and I held one end with vise grips and carefully bent the wire hook part with needle nose pliers to have a little smaller radius so that the clamp engaged the lower catch sooner and pulled with more tension as it moved up and over the center. I kept messing with them until I got all four tensions firmer and equal, but not so tight that the lid distorts.
Ernest, thanks for posting that great tip. '
It reminds me to go check mine. I have the truck here at work today to service it and check all the tires, etc. for a hop over Steven's pass tomorrow.
It's a common thing to have happen with that style of clip.
