I have 16's on my 67 F-250. The only thing you gotta watch is that the will clear your drums. Also when ordering your rims make sure they are for the older style Ford because the lug hole spacing are different on newer vehicles. You want standard not metric. Good Luck.
Sorry missed part of thae question. It makes it nice with the 16's because you can air down. And tires are a little cheaper and a heck of alot easier to find. If you want to stick with the 16.5's you can get them at Four wheel parts.
Hi Gump,
When I wanted some 7.00 x 15 traction type pizza cutters for my f-100 I called a place called Denman tires that i found on the internet. they gave me the name of a local supplier who had what i wanted in stock. The price could not be beat either.
i looked them up the other day and they do have 16.5" tires available. You should look them up and give them a call if you want to keep your rims. i have 16 steels on my 68 f-250 and they clear the drums fine but I tried some aftermarket alloys (test fit before I bought) and they did not clear.
