there is an open thread on this already. It discusse the exact thing. The "V" is a synthetic blend that reg. mercon will never be. Just adding stuff will never turn standard Mercon into Mercon V.
Simply put the "V" is a superior fluid.
Since it is a synthetic "blend", wouldn't it be reasonable to think you might be able to buy just the part that "blends" with the conventional? That was my thinking anyways.
Has anyone run B & M Trick Shift in a Mercon V spec for any length of time? I have had great luck with it in anything else I use it in.
What are the risks of running mercon rated ATF in Mercon V spec vehicle ('99 B4000)?

If you have the manufacturing and process instruments to make a proper blend, you could make your own stuff, heak why stop there? Why not make your own gasoline?
The specifictions for the fluid is so great, it would never be duplicated by mixing stuff in the garage.
B&M states on the bottle that the synthetic fluid is not to be used in transmissions buiilt after 2000. There is a reason. That reason I do not know. For late model transmissions that required a firmer shift, I have always just reprogrammed them to increase pressure, or hold a gear a little longer.
The days of past when adding a fluid with little or no friction modifier (type "F') to gain firmer shifts are a thing of the past. Now electronic transmissions can be electronically altered to provide enough performance for street use, and still utilize the advanced fluid dynamics of current fluids that are less prone to failure, foaming, oxidation, etc.....
Lubeguard sells something that does exactly what you say. Add it to Mercon III and it becomes Mercon V, at least that's what they claim. The sell it over the counter, Napa carries their stuff, but the main target is for shops to use it instead of stocking several different fluids. The Merc3->Merc5 is the black bottle with red cap.
