It is reading 2 on the ohm meter. Tested them at the glow plug itself. If I plug it up it starts right away, would that change if it was a sensor? The one time it started and ran perfect, it was cold and it did run considerably better even when warm. . . My scanner doesn't have the setup for diesel but I have a perfectly operational 97 powerstroke if there is anyway to swap stuff for part test. Also I'm getting 11.73 to 12.3 volts at the glow plug thoughout the gpr cycle.(on 7 plugs)
can I swap the eot from the other truck?
And I just need to pop the top on the hpop to ensure that is full to the top?
When it's warmer outside it will start but I have to wait a bit to drive it and clear out all the excess fuel.
not sure but could the ambient air temp have anything to do with start up? i dont have anything to tell me.
The truck is supposed to know
Engine oil temp should be the same as ambient air temp ,,If EOT is wrong ( bad sensor) the truck may be harder to start..you need a scanner to compare them..
It's about 60 deg here, I use Rotella 15w/40, 94.5 powerstroke, misses when cold, run good (not perfect) when warm (pulls my tractor fine but not as well as it did for that week it was running perfect) solenoid is fine, I didn't replace the glow plugs/previous owner did before I bought it (called him a while back to insure he replaced them, he assured me that they were new ? brand)
Inner connection is good or ohms would read open, I pulled every female pin to ensure they are good. I quess my only possibility now is the pin to plug exterior connection or another set of glow plugs ( ? these tested good)
i just took care of the same problem. My truck would still have trouble starting up in the 40deg weather even though it was plugged in all night. i was told to check my gp resistance and while i was attempting to do that i found one of the plugs on the main upper harness was burned. So i decided to replace my gp's , vc gaskets and internal harness'. when i got the covers off i found my that the other side vc gasket was toasted on the inside and the internal harness was fried.
I know it sounds like a pain but if you can i would pulll the covers and check out the internal harness'
I've got the valve cover off now. Today I basically ruled out glow plug system, I tested the glow plugs and they read 4.6 ohms, then I checked the harness and I've got fire to them. I then made a harness that plugged directly to the gp's and held it to the hot post for 30 sec. Cranked on it for a minute and it tries to hit every couple of seconds but no dice. checked the hpop level and it was full.
I know the cps problems are not all consistent, so it's got me curious. Sounds like no fuel but if I get it started she's loaded with fuel. I had fuel barely leaking through the eot when I replaced the pump and there's a little naked wire where it goes into the harness. Can I be 100% sure the gp's are good if they are reading 4.6, the system is cycling properly.
