dropping oil pressure

I have a 351m with about 9 thousand miles on the motor since its been rebuild in my 77 f150.My oil pressure at idle goes from about 35 psi down to about 20 psi once the engine heats up.What is causing this.Ive checked the mechanical gauge but its working like it should.is a pressure drop normal once the engine heats up

thanks

Pressure will drop when the oil warms up as oil viscosity decreases with heat. What oil weight are you running? My 400 runs around 50 psi running down the road at 2500-3000 RPM, and drops to about 25-30 at idle. I'm running Shell Rotella 15-40W oil.

Bearing clearances determine oil pressure especially the #1 main clearance.

yes, pressure drop once warmed up is normal. my 400 runs about 75 psi right at startup, 65psi cruising once hot, 30psi or so at hot idle.

Oil viscousity will definitely have an effect. I run 20w50 in the hot summer in my hot rod motor.

My 400 does the same thing, it has roughly 35,000 miles on it and doesn't burn a drop of oil. When I start it I have about 65 psi and once its warmed up and been driven for a while and idling its also around 20 psi. I run Mobil 10w30 clean 5000.
