Exclamation Mirror got hit!

Driving home tonight I smacked mirrors with an older model powerstroke, shattering my driver mirror. So, what should I do next? Get the new body style mirrors with turn signals and heat or stick with the old ones? Where might be a good place to look? I am assuming the dealer is a total rip-off on OEM replacements?
Thanks in advance guys.

By the way, we were going opposite directions both going 35mph and my plastic is fine, just broke the glass. These things are pretty strong.

Now is the perfect time to replace them for some with signals in them. I'm not sure the best place to check though. Maybe watch some eBay auctions?

I think you might be able to buy just the mirror glass. Have you checked that? Or are you wanting totally mirror replacement with newer style?

I wouldn't mind getting just the glass, but it looks like the tabs/swivel thing broke so the dealer said I would need a whole new mirror assembly. I would love to upgrade to some lighted/heated mirrors if it comes down to it.

Well if you replace them, I might be interested in the old one as my trim where the mirror mounts to the driver side door has a crack in it. Are they the telescoping style?

Heck, I just stupidly repaired my mirrors when I could have used that crack and the faulty power mirror excuse for an upgrade. The motors may just have to fail sometime.

Yes, they are the telescoping kind. I will let you know what I come up with as far as changing them out or not.

Been there done that, Me and another SD met on a narrow bridge except at about 50MPH, long story short, his window was down and his arm was resting on window ledge his mirror completley seperated and came into the cab w/ him breaking his arm on the way in and shattering the pax side window. Mine came off and (my window was up) and cracked my drivers side window, and then went down the side of my truck causing dents and enough scratched to have to have that side repainted. Police said it was a no fault accident, just a case of too much trucks for too little bridge.

WOW, thats worse than mine. I was really shocked at how loud it was when it hit the glass. Luckily only the mirror broke.

Okay, plain old power mirror, 1 each at $204 at the stealership. That's expensive.

I'll have a set of power NON-telescoping NO-heat towing mirrors available soon. I've got heated mirrors to put on. If someone's interested please PM me and we'll go from there.

I worry about smacking mirrors at times... glad it hasn't happened to me!!

Dude... just peal out the glass and order new glass. These guys have it. www.powerstrokeshop.com They just pop right in.

or go to a glass store...peal off the plastic backing on the glass mirror..where the glass mounts...and glue on another piece of glass.

Probably 15-20 bucks...

Unless your really want to spend $$$ for the lighted ones. I got my set for 550 from www.powerstrokeshop.com

I'm still driving around with a passenger mirror out! and your right you can't just replace the glass and have power adjustment on them. usually when the brake, I'm on my third set, the attachment for the motor is gone so hince you have to buy the assy. I got a single mirror for 103.00 bucks OEM. Ive heard you can get after market for 66.00 I'll check on that tomorrow let you know if you havent found anything. Also seen the heated ones for 450.00 little much for mirrors. Good Luck! Mick

$450 isn't cheap, but driving around this winter WITHOUT heat in my mirrors just plain sucked. if you live in Florida, etc. there probably isn't much need for the heat, but I live at 5000' and it gets chilly!

Okay, so after a little heated debate at the dealer I asked to see just the glass part and it comes with the plastic backing as well as the clips I needed. (dealer assured me they did not, he was wrong) So, $50 bones later and about 10 minutes to install I am set again. If it happens to you make sure you dont buy the whole mirror if you dont need it!
