So is anyone else crazy like me when they get a new set of pliers? I take and hit 'em with WD40 in the joint and work them in until they will fall open on their own and then close on their own. A pair of pliers just doesn't quite feel right until they are broken in.
Sure. I do the same except I use Kroil. WD40 has lots of uses but being a long lasting lubricant isn't one of them. It's mainly solvent and when that evaporates it leaves a gummy film behind.
A bit off the subject but there was a once-a-year swap meet here in New Mexico. High desert-low annual precipitation. Anyway, I'm soooo tired of seeing these guys want a bunch of cash for tools and car parts that they seem to keep underwater througout the year.
Geez guys, can't you keep them out of weather and a drop or two of oil? I don't get it for the investment made they seem to want their tools returning to earth by oxidation. I like worn-in too but come one.........
Its nuts how much people think they can get for well used and abused tools. However, you can find the occasional deal where someone is off-loading something because it looks bad or needs a simple fix.
On a new pair of pliers, I'll remove the oil with lighter fluid, then I flow Brasso into the
joint, and work it awhile, then use lighter fluid to clean out the joint. This also works
for the rusty joints as well. After the joint is clean, I use Super Lube spray on it.
They don't rust again after that.
