i got a little problem and i need some help.
i got a 87 bronco 5.8 351w and when i try to set the timing with a timing light which sets on 10 degrees btdc i pull off the vacuum from the distributor to retard it and the engine want retard the vacuum supply to the distributor is coming from the carb port and it gets alittle vacuum at idle and alot when you accelerate to work the vacuum advance but when you pull the vacuum and plug it the timing should retard
any idears thanks.

Uhhh... on second thought, it could be a bad vacuum advance. Try sucking on the vacuum hose and see if it holds a vacuum. If not, it is bad.

>well i checked the vacuum advance and diagham was bad and i put a new one on it and the timing still want retard when i pull the vacuum off it. guys i need help, you know the vacuum supply to the vacuum advance is coming from the bottom front port on the carberator, but that only applys vacuum when the engine is increased,so i guess the engine want drop when the vacuum is removed at an idle, but i still thank the engine should retard when the vacuum is removed, i need help.
Ford had 2 ways of doing the vacuum advance. none of my trucks retard when you remove the vacuum line, and i found it somewhere that it is supposed to be that way for some vehicles......you may have one of those....
On my '84 mercury grand marquis, ( i know its not a bronco ) it required you to unplug a few wires to the distributor before you set the timing. Does yours have too? Good Luck. Rob
just to up date now that i think about it the timing is already retarded because theres know vacuum at the vacuum advance until you give it some gas then it advances, so it's retarded at an idle.
so to set the timing on this one you just shoot the mark with a timing light i guess with out pluging the vacuum
