That's what I'd do. If the tranny in question is "built" for towing, etc, and all the other parameters are in the "normal" range, I say go for it.
That's why we monitor those systems in the first place. We want to see how things are BEFORE they go bad.
If the tranny is hunting, time to turn off OD, otherwise as long as everything stays within normal parameters, I don't see a problem with towing in OD.
