fuel mileage???

Hey everyone, I have a few questions. I am looking into purchasing a 99-03 7.3 stroker. I was wondering what the difference in fuel mileage would be between a f250, f350 sw, and a dually? I will assume they will all be automatics and definitely a 4x4. I would guess that dually's get less economy, two more tires on the pavement. I am also wondering what gearing options I have with a dually. I figure the 4.10 is the most common but did any of them come with 3.73's? Thanks for any info fellas.

I have an F350 SRW 4x4 and I would say I am somewhere around 12 mpg but after the DP Tuner, I have a heavier sometimes. Not sure my gear ratio is and I know I could probably get better mileage if I really tried.

My truck gets about 13.7 mpg. I calculate it over about 700 miles, so I know it's accurate. I never go by the overhead lie-o-meter. I drive 90 miles a day, about 50/50 highway and local roads. I keep it between 62 and 65 mph (2000-2250 rpm). Driving at anything above 75 I've gotten as low as 10 mpg. But damn, my dually is beautiful! Worth the cost to me!

All single rear wheel 99-03 7.3 Diesels came with 3:73 rear gears. That was the only option. The dually came with 3:73 stock or the 4:10 is optional. Most guys see 12 to 14 around town and 16 to 19 on the highway. That is what I get and seems to be about what everyone is seeing.

I've got an 03 F350 with the 7.3, all stock, super cab 4x4, 3.73's. I drive secondary roads most of the time, a good amount of stop and go. I don't drive for economy either. I don't beat it, but I could certainly do a little better lol. Here's the last few fill ups (all miles/gallons). I think I'm pretty much in line with others...

When I'm a really good boy, I get 14-14.5 in city, and 18.-19.5 highway (no more than 70 mph).

Otherwise, it's 13.5 city and 16.5-17.5 highway (75-85 mph).

3.73 rear end, single rear wheel, 2WD.

I'm now getting 19mpg city and probably 21mpg highway with a 2wd with a regulated fuel system/airdog combo.

Pre fuel system mods I was getting 17mpg all-around.

?????

I wish i was as lucky as most of you here... I have been figuring out my mileage for the past 5 tankfulls and have not been able to get anything above 12.5 mpg (2000 7.3, CC, 4x4, short bed, 305-70-r16 tires) City driving. Empty all the time, no hills or grades.

Only mods so far are CCV, & 6637 filter.

Thanks for the info gentlemen. I am going to add a few more details to the truck. I am going to purchase either a f250 or 350 srw crew cab, 4 wheel drive, hopefully longbed if I can find one. Here's my delima, I am unsure of the reliability of the 6 spd. and auto. I am looking at towing a gooseneck flatbed with around 15k lbs. on it. This will also be a regular truck to haul the family around in, when we need to use a truck. I am wanting max fuel economy and reliability. So, if anyone has recommendations or advice I will always appreciate it. Thanks again.
