Hi guys, I have an 02 F350 dually, 7.3L and am looking to upgrade to an 05 dually 6.0L with the 5 speed auto, I have a few question I am hoping you all can help with
- I would like to get the 3.73 gears in the dually, but they do not offer that option in the dually with Limited Slip, would any of you risk not getting the limited slip? ( I will use this for 15% off road use on "forestry roads"?) What mileage are you getting with the 4.10 empty?
- How are you guys liking the coil spring front end? Is the turning radius any better than the leaf spring? For those that have hauled a camper with an 05, do they find the front end "bouncy" when hitting bumps at hiway speeds?
I have an '05 4x4 dually with the 4.10 limited slip. Ride I would say is very good and the new coil sprong front end makes a very noticable difference in turning radius.
Mileage wise I'm getting about 14 on the lie-o-meter but that is running mountain roads and a fair amound of warmup time. On more extended runs it has looked like around 15 mpg. I'm thinking once it is broken in (2800 miles now) and running longer distances on summer fuel I should see 17 or a bit better.

Thanks for any help that you can supply,
Just got mine for christmas. The coils ride and handle better, and turn MUCH sharper, no comparison at all.
I have 4.30 gears with the TowBoss package, and still am getting 12-13mpg, around town, with an un-broken-in motor.
I have my new 05 F350 6.0 Crew Cab DRW and I am getting about 14 as well on the computer readout. I would like to see better and after talking with some guys on here it seems the engine will begin to get better with time. I would not go without the limited slip rearend and I do not think there will too much difference in the 4.10 and the 3.73 but thats just my 2 cents worth. I would go with the 4.10 b/c it will be backed by ford and 4.10 is popular among the tow guys which means when you go to sell it that it will be easier to sell.
Do any of you know the largest tire size that can be put on the duallies without rubbing?
Rubbing isn't so much an issue on the duallie as airspace clearance on the back tires. If you go with larger tires, and are towing, you must insure enough clearance between the back tires to adequately cool the rear brakes.
If you want to go with above a 245/75 size, you need to consider wheels with larger backspacing.
I have an 05 Dually w/ 4.10. Yes the standard tire size is 245/75Rx17E. I used to have an 02 350 w/ 3.73. The most noticeable difference to me is the rpm's. I now run 2000 higher @ 70 mph then before. I haven't towed with it yet and can't wait to see the difference. I pull a 37' fifth wheel that weighs around 12800. The 02 really had no problems pulling it but I can't wait to see how the torque shift does. Good luck in your search, from my past experience, stick w/ the 4.10.

On my 05 crew cab dually 6.0 6 speed I have Super Swamper LTB's 34x10.5x17 with no lift, no rub and no spacers in the rear. There is 1" space between the rear tires. If you are even thinking about bigger tires go with the 4.10. I am getting 13 to 14 mpg. w/ truck full of tools.
I know others have already said it, but I'll say it anyways. The turning radius is great with the new front end. I have about 2500 miles on mine now, and it still impresses my how it turns.
