Play in steering wheel
I have a 1999 F250SD V10 it has 81K on it. Having some front end issues. There is approx 2" of play in the stearing wheel. 1" either way and it is driving me nuts. Took it in for a front end inspection and they told me the ball joints were bad. Actually I knew that so I had them replaced. Also put new tires on and replaced the tie-rod ends. This tightended it up a little but there is still 2" of play. I'm lost don't know what to do. Put new breaks on to. any help would be apperciated.

watch the steering shaft first for the joint just
above the steering box, if not this go down to the gear box
if it is moving going in and not out the bottom at the
pitman arm then you found it
if the pitman is moving then your looseness
is in the linkage and should have been repaired with your
alignment
The more I think about it. The last thing the guy said to me when the alignment was gone. He said the tech is straighting the steering wheel to horziontal. I joked with him and told him the last time I did this which was years ago. Is I took off the steering wheel rotated it and put it back on. Actually before the alignment there was no play. I do not know how they straightned the wheel. I'm gonna call them today and see what they did. Reading posts here I'm wondering if they loosended the steering box to get the steering wheel straight.
