hesitation

My 7.3L Powerstroke has a hesitation around 2200-2500 Rpm. It hesitates real bad and blows white smoke and then clears up and takes right off. Any ideas what this could be? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

what type of driving are you doing? are you cruising then drop the hammer at those RPM's or just accelerating then hit that range and it stumbles/hesitates?

It does it no matter what type of driving im doing, weather i downshift and hammer it, or just accelerating down the road.

do you have any way to check for codes? when was the air and fuel filter changed? last oil change? ever cleaned the fuel pressure regulator screen?

we'll look at maintence stuff first.

The oil and filter were both changed less than 1000 miles ago. And I cleaned the screen yesterday. Not sure about pulling codes, never done it before.
