What is required (tools, parts, etc.) to replace the vacuum lines on the hubs of a 2000 X? When I put it in 4WD, the AC switches to defrost, so I'm guessing I have a vacuum leak.
Anytime that the sealed bearing hubs are pulled from the knuckle joint, you will need to replace the yellow vacuum o-rings on the back side of the hub. The failure of these seals to create a tight vacuum within the hub is the most common reason for failure of the autolock hubs to engage 4x4 from the dash control. Vacuum leaks at this seal can also cause malfunctions of the heating system vents. You will need 2 of these o-rings. Ford part # F81Z-4A322-AA
All the tools that are required is a knife or screw driver to remove the ends of the old hoses from the nipples on the chassy and wheel hub. Easy job. If you turn the wheels you won't have to jack and remove them. Jim
If the seals on the wheels are bad that is a big job. But I give you 90% that it is just the vacuum hose.
