I have 2 trucks with the 300I6 engine. I have a question about the starters One is a 79 with a standard and the other is an 81 with an automatic. what are the diffrences in the starters. The parts store lists one for manuals and one for autos. I am guessing its all in the nose cone. I wonderd if I could swap the nose cones. Any information would be apricated
I would verify there's a diff on the AZ site, unless you did that.
Here's a helpful tip for all....I took my lifetime warranty starter for my 83 back to AZ after some years, they didn't have the exact part number in stock, gave me one for the later years...fantastic...higher torque...that baby cranks FAST!
I went to az site and they list one part # for auto And one for manual. I wanted to know what the diffrence is between them without pulling the good starter out if I dont have to
IIRC,theonly difference is the bendix.ALSO,the MOTOR part of the starters is the same for ALL engines. The only differences are the nose cone and the bendix.Got this info from a local starter, alternator and generator rebuilder who has been in the business for appx 45 years.
