I'M WONDERING WHATS UP WITH MY COOLANT THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. I'VE FLUSHED IT BECAUSE THE COOLANT JUST LOOKED OFF. ITS THAT NEWER ORANGE STUFF. THE COLOR AND SMELL GOT ME THINKING ITS A HEAD GASKET BUT WHEN I LOOK AT THE DIPSTICK IT DOESN'T SHOW ANY SIGNS OF COOLANT. WHAT ELSE DO SOME OF YOU THINK OF THIS. I JUST FLUSHED IT AND REFILLED WITH JUST WATER TO BE ABLE TO SEE IT BETTER. THE EXPANSION TANK LOOKED REALLY BAD.
You cant mix the new coolant with the old green stuff. You have to do a serious flush before upgrading to the new generation of coolants. The old and the new mixed together causes corrosion. If there was even a little bit of ole green stuff left, they will react. There is a good chance your radiator is gunked up already...Good luck
thanks but i don't think that the problem i've been running the new stuff since it came out,for years. this is a new problem ,last 6 months, and even since then i've had a new radiator from a ford dealer installed
DO NOT use the orange coolant. It is called OAT (Organic Acid Treatment). It is not compatible with Ford vehicles. Some later model Ford products had orange as original coolant. It was found to be more harmful than helpful.Go back to using the green ethylene glycol that originally came with the vehicle. The OAT is ultra corrosive to the internals of your engine. 100% water is not a good idea either. While it has superior heat transfer characteristics, it does not have low freeze, or high boiling points.
