i thought about that but it sounds pretty involved and i'm not wild about pulling that much apart. adding an aftermarket gauge or two sounded a lot easier
Well I think you would have to take off most of your dashboard around your cluster anyway if wanted to setup an external gauge. Its really not that hard to take it apart. I just did it yesterday, took me about 3 minutes.
ok, any idea what years gauge cluster would fit? is it pretty plug and play? anything else i should opt for? do they make them with a reading for both fuel tanks?
edit: what years, and will a 150 fit my 250? other ford models? expedition, mustang
I'm not sure about the years that will fit. Somebody else can chime in on that I'm sure, but I would guess that any of the F-series trucks from around 92-96 would fit; and I believe it's pretty plug and play.
And no, there was never a cluster with 2 gas tank gauges, just the single that is used for both tanks, depending on which one you're using.
Also you might try searching this forum for "tach" or "cluster". There have been several guys that have done this swap in the past. I'm sure they'd be a wealth of information.
yea, thanks those articles helped. unfortunately it looks like finding the tach may be the hard part. i guess i'll just keep an eye out - one is bound to turn up.
Yeah I didn't wanna break the bad news. But yes, you're correct, the hardest part will be to find the cluster. Keep your eye out at the junkers and pick-n-pulls, they've gotta be out there.
I don't know about the 97 s you might need a Tach dash from 96 97 but I don't know if the 97 F250 gas was OBDII or not . And my books don't have the 96 97 in it.
Here is the break down for F150
92 93
94 95 with airbag
96 OBDII
I hope some of the posts above can clarify the heavier truck for you. This is a plug an play if you find the right one. I like the stockers but you could get and after market tach and mount on dash column or a gauge cluster on window pillar, good luck
Why not get a auto-meter? And I do believe there is a place on the distributor or coil to plug it in to.. well.. at least thats where my remote starter got a wire to splice into so it can tell if the engine is running or not..
I was under the impression that the trucks with the digital odometer held their mileage count in the computer and not in the cluster module. Just a hunch, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
