ok,heres my problem.I have a 1990 f250.I seem to be having a problem with my hubs oe front axle.I am using 35 in tires too.I have replaced the hubs in this truck three times in the last year.Every time i do,2 months later i start hearing a grinding on the passenger side front. This grinding is really loud and embarrassing! My question is could the front axle be tearing up my hubs?Last time they were replaced the mechanic told me there was a lil play on the passenger side axle. When it grinds the whole truck shakes. Also should i go with something a lil beffier in the front end since i am using larger tires?
f-250 should be the ttb 50 if im not mistaken. Pretty sure only the 350's were solid 60's (suffering from copenhagen on the brain). It is a simple (depending on your wrench skills) switch to the solid 60. I would say you have some internal problems. there sould be no reason you eating hubs just because of you tires. Ive been running 35's on a dana 44 for yrs with heavy wheeling. I would say its time to start taking things apart.
The Dana 50 TTB front axle has a set of needle bearings that support the axle stub shaft. If these bearings are shot, the stub shaft will have lots of side to side play and will wear out the hub assemblies.
To get at the needle bearings, first the hub and wheel bearing assembly needs to be removed and then the spindle has to be pulled. This allows the axle stub shafts to be removed and the needle bearing replaced.
The difficult part of this job is removing the spindles since they always rust themselves into place.
thanks for the replies.I think i will pull the tire tommorrow it has gotten really bad it actually is rubbing on my rim now and the brakes arent workin very well,(maybe from the heat of the rubbing?)Any more input will be appreciated thanks again

I'm thinking of coverting my front axle to a Dana 60. Is this a job that can be done reasonably by a 4x4 shop? What would I expect to pay for the conversion?
