Manual front hub (4x4) questions
I have manual hubs on the front end, and have started to hear a grinding type sound. Had the tires balanced and while they were off went and spun the hubs. On the drivers side the axle doesn't move while the hub is unlocked and is spun. The passenger side is different, while hub is unlocked the axle spins, and then I found the grinding noise. Haven't pulled the axle out or anything, but I am just trying to figure out if the hub is bad or what. If the hub is bad, I know a lot of you guys have bought Warn hubs. Is there any special mods to make them fit on my dually, or do they fit without any mods?

Dan will they fit with the adapter inplace or do I need to modify the adapter somehow. I figure if the adapter needs to be modified then it will need to wiat for a little while until I can grind and cut on it.
Forgot to add this in the original post. The grinding noise is front in the front axle somehwere. So I figure if the axle quits spinning then the grinding will stop.

If the hub is unlocked, and the axle still spins, there is a very good chance, the inner axle bearing, on the inside of the unit bearing, is bad. They are about a $10 bearing from napa. They make the worse sounds when they do this. Axle bearings on our fords run backwards of every other system. The axle bearing spins while the axleshaft is unlocked. Which is just opposite of normal 4wd front axles. To 100% verify this, just pull the hub out, which only requires removal of the snap ring, and slide out. Then turn the lugs. If the axle shaft still spins, Im right, you need the inner axle bearing. If it does no longer spin, then you do infact have a problem with your hub. If it is the inner axle bearing, you need to unbolt, and remove the unit bearing, and remove the axle bearing from the inside of it. Like I said, that bearing is about $10 from any napa.

Yes, the Warn locking hubs will fit, I have them on mine. You have to remove the front 4 inch spacer and grind the inside of it a little bit with either a die grinder or dremel. There places where the spacer was casted (in the middle)that need to be smoothed out for the Warn hub to fit. Here's a pic:
