Throttle Cable Adjustment?

Is there a way to adjust the throttle cable in a '83 F-100 302? The throttle plates can't be opened fully by flooring the pedal. I first though there was too much carpet and padding under the pedal, but that didn't turn out to be the problem. It looks like there's about 1/2 - 3/4 inches of slack in the cable where it comes through the top of the pedal arm and I think it would help if I could adjust this out. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Do you have the original carb? If not, you may need to re-locate the ball stud by drilling another hole further to the front of the truck in the carb arm.

Thanks for the quick reply. As far as I know it's the original carb. I'll look and see if there's room to move the ball stud. Is it possible to adjust by bending the pedal arm? Or would that weaken it?

I am sure you could bend it with no problems. If there is any way to do it, if you could move the throttle cable bracket further away from the carb, that would take care of some of the slack too. Just be sure and not mess with the tranny cable if you have an AOD automatic.

I have run into the same problem and have fixed it several different ways. I have pulled the excess cable out of the hole at the pedal and wrapped copper wire around it to take up the slack, I have clamped a wire fitting around the slack and put a ball of solder around it to hold it in place. I did both of those as temporary fixes but they are holding strong after a few years. I have removed and bent the pedal arm I have also re-built the bracket on top of the engine. Probably the best fix and the one I have done a couple times is the bent pedal arm.

Every one of the 302 cables I have replaced from probably 80-84 or 85 have been that same way. My guess is that they are being manufactured to the wrong spec. but what do I know?
