Okay, I think I've got an electrical problem, and I'm hoping someone has some feedback. Every now and then when I go to start my 96 Bronco, it will be completely dead. If I wait a few minutes, it will usually come back to life pretty quick. If I am driving it before this happens, I will notice that my volt meter flickers slightly while it is running. Then, once I park and turn off the key, it is completely dead. No lights, no powere locks, no nothing. It has never died while running, though.
Mr Eddy, it could be several things, but I would check the simple things first. Take off and clean the battery cables, and make sure the ground cable to the engine block is clean and tight.
Since the voltmeter flickers before this happens, this narrows it down. Check the battery for about 12.6V with a multimeter when this happens. The battery could have an internal open circuit when it gets hot.
Thanks for the response. I actually went home last night and spent some time figuring it out. I had a damaged battery cable that was grounding out every now and then when it vibrated up against the frame! Thanks!
