It is my understanding that before the "Explorer" became a vehicle in its own right, it was the name of a trim package for an F150. Can anyone tell me what years the Explorer package came on and give me some idea of what you got for your extra money? Please feel free to throw in any other history about the Explorer name. For some odd reason, Im interested in finding out whatever I can. If someone out there has a picture of one, that would be awesome. Im assuming that the Explorer package would be comparable to the more contemporary "Eddie Bauer" package but I dont really know for sure. Thanks
No, trim level was established by the XLT, XL series.
Someone will know more than me, in fact I seem to remember a discussion on this, so you might do a search.
I remember a bold orange stripe on the beige paint color, so I'd guess it was different color stripes and a group of options grouped together...you know 10 items, 7 of which you really care about.
Member "81-F-150-Explorer" has some very good info in his gallery. He hasn't posted in while, I've been wondering where he's been. Here's the link to his gallery.
Yeah basically started in 1973 was a special edition trim line on the pickups till about 85 86 or so then 87 was the new bodystyle so the explorer designation was dropped yeah someone else will know more than me
