no, but they still make d hid style replacement bulbs
Yes they do still make "D" style HID replacement bulbs for vehicles that came from the factory with HID lights installed. If the vehicle did not come from the factory with HID headlights, they are illegal to install on a vehicle that did not come factory equipped with HID headlights.
.....but us ('cheap') guys with an XL (basic work truck package - no chrome) cant do the swap. My truck came with the big old fashoned square sealed-beams. But a few months after I bought the bran-new truck, I did swap out the factory GE Halogen headlights for the GE 'HO' (high output) version at Wal-Mart. About $10/each in a red box. BIG DIFFERENCE!!! Looked them up on the internet, the stock headlights are 35 watts and the 'HO' are 55 watts.
i'm talking about the blue replcacement bulbs that go with the stock wireing
Okay, now i understand what you are looking for. The blue coating on the bulbs for the most part is a scam, to make everyone think the blue coated "halogen" bulb is working just like a true "HID" bulb. In reality all the blue/violet coating does is remove certain colors from the light ouput of the halogen bulb and decrease the glare that is produced by overdriving the halogen bulb to perform with a blue/violet coating. You actually get less lighting with a blue/violet coated halogen bulb than with a non-coated halogen bulb. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...e/bad/bad.html http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...uperwhite.html
If you want brighter lights then upgrade to the Sylvania "XtraVision" bulbs. The Sylvania "Silver Star" bulbs that you find at Pep Boys, Auto Zone etc are blue/violet coated bulbs and do not perform as well and have a very short life span. Now that being said the confusion about "Silver Star" bulbs is this: Osram owns Sylvania and the "OSRAM Silver Star" bulbs from Europe are brighter and not blue/violet coated like the "US Sylvania Silver Star" bulbs.
So if you want even brighter lites than the "Xtravision" then look for: Narva RangePower+50 and RangePower+30, GE Night Hawk, Philips Vision Plus, and Osram Silver Star. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...good/good.html

Yes you should have brighter lights with the GE HO bulbs over standard bulbs since they are 55W instead of 35W. Just make sure the stock factory headlight wiring harness is up to the task. With the stock bulbs at 35W the lights were drawing 2.92Amps per bulb (5.84Amps per pair) and with the upgraded 55W bulbs the lights are now drawing 4.58Amps per bulb (9.16Amps per pair), this is 57% increase in Amp draw.
...Just make sure the stock factory headlight wiring harness is up to the task...
After I did the swap, I asked a Ford dealer service department manager about this. He said it is 'not a problem with the newer F-series trucks, unlike around the 1980s F-series' where you had to re-wire it. He said just dont add more driving lights and splice into the current headlight wiring.
my silver stars aren't blue, nor do they have a blue coating, nor is the light they emmit blue...I have them on two cars...did i miss something?...I know there was a blue bulb on the racks made by sylvania, it was a cheaper set, but I don't think they were listed a silver stars...I'm confused
