Tire Pressure

I have a set of Firestone E load tires that have a max PSI of 65. My right rear tire is looking a little low. I might be going on a small trip tomorrow, so I want to make sure everything it correct. I know what the door says, but what do you guys run for tire pressures? I need some real world advice.

Tire Pressure

During the summer, I run 45 & 45. I don't carry anything heavy in the bed either. During the winter, when I have the plow on, I raise up the front to 55 to carry the extra 800 pounds.

What size were your factory tires and what were the factory tire pressure settings marked on the door? What size are your new Firestones?

From this information we can compare load/inflation tables of old vs. new and determine the proper tire pressure.

BFG A/T (E) 65lbs. front and 40-45lbs. rear when not towing then I bump up to 75lbs. rear with the trailer...the reason was I had them at max but I was wearing out the centers when not loaded.

The door sticker said 50 front and 70 rear. That's where I put them (I went 55 in the front), so we'll see how they do on this trip and then adjust as needed. Thanks!

When your not hauling anything 70 in the rear just isnt needed. You can get away with 45-50 for everyday driving, and bump it up in the rear if you ned to haul something.

Don't exceed your tires max psi rating. The heavier the load the more pressure you need. Running empty more psi = better mpg & rougher ride. Lower psi = smoother ride. My Firestone E tires are max rated at 80 psi. Also keep in mind not all load range E tires have the same weight rating. You have to read the max weight on the side of the tire.

P.S. "richsoucie" Your EGA is bass ackwards.

Well, they rode pretty well. I little more bumpy than before, but not bad at all. I messed up the max PSI, it is 80, not 65. My problem is I haul 12K lbs. once or twice a week. I'll just keep them bumped up and see how they do.
