NEED PULLING POWER!!!!!

The largest power increase you are going to get is changing the rear gears. You didn't state the model of the truck but the 4.6 runs pretty good with 3.73's. If you change the rear gears I would also suggest a chip to go with it. Not much else to do to it.

NEED PULLING POWER!!!!!

The largest power increase that you're going to get is by selling the ford, and getting a chev with a 6.0 liter. Being's that the chev 6.0 liter v-8 is more powerfull than the ford v-10, gets better gas milage, and that the truck rides and handles much better. You'll be more than satisfied.

NEED PULLING POWER!!!!!

A Chevy, you must be kidding, you have to read the post again
this trailer is being pulled up and over some long pulls and it wont make the trip, that is why we will stay with the ford, even if it's only a 4.6 atrade off here and there and it will get the job done .

NEED PULLING POWER!!!!!

Thought this was a Ford msg board?

Any how. I have a 02 Screw w/ a 5.4, 3.55 rear end. Was wondering if stepping up to the 3.73 will make a big difference in pulling/gas mileage. I just got a toy hauler that is in the 6k range loaded and want some more pull. I plan on adding the chip sold on here in the store. I currently have a air intake and a 3' cat back.

NEED PULLING POWER!!!!!

Rich,

Sounds like we have similar vehicles (I have a 2002 SCrew Lariat 4x4 5.4L w/3.55 Limited Slip).

Are you having problems with the 6,000lb toy hauler? I thought these would be able to tow it quite easily (rating I believe is 7700lbs).

We still haven't had our questions on the programer answered in the other posts - I would like to think that would give you quite a boost along with your intake/exhaust upgrades.

Any info you can share would be appreciated. We're (my wife and I) in the market for something to tow - for a Camper. I would've loved a 5th wheel but I guess that won't work with our short boxes (the F250/350's don't fit in my garage and we need the 5 seat capacity for our boys). I'm looking at some trailers that weigh in at about 7100GVWR (a Starcraft "Starlight" 29' trailer). I was hoping with a "mass air intake", Cat back exhaust and a chip I would tow this easily without needed a gear ratio change (since I have a 4x4 I'd have to change front and back ratios).

And, as a former Chevy owner, I'm much happier with my Ford. That 20 year old chassy GM is using needs upgrading. . . 'nuf said.

NEED PULLING POWER!!!!!

Please explain what problems chevy's chassis has, causing it to need updrade. I never knew the chassis had any problems. I'm a mechanic. I familiar with the probs that ford had with there chassis'in the 80's, but I didn't know of chevys. And besides Chevy has had 4 different chassis over the past 20 years.

NEED PULLING POWER!!!!!

Todd,

It has no problems pulling by no means. I saw that Toyato claims that it can pull a tailer, I forgot the weight up to 60 in 17 secs. Well with a 24ft toyhauler, 2 street race bikes, 1 mini bike, 1 5kw generator, 60G of race gas, fully fueled, with lots of gear, 3 passengers, AC on, I did it in a shade under 19. Plus the ford weights a little more than the toy so that may be the difference. Anyhow I have no problems pulling I just wanted it to pull better. Sometimes it wants to shift into overdirve on real flat tracks but then it will slowly start to lose some. Not sure aboutt he pulling into overdrive ordeal, but I have a warranty so I am not worried. I do know that I went 160 miles and had to fill it up. I put in almost 21G so I was close to empty. Where I go is pretty much up hill the whole 240 miles trip from San Diego to the high dessert. I will keep you posted. I would like Ken to answer me in the chip programmer post. Guess I'll have to wait. I think I will get that and see what happens before I go changing gears. I figured I could program the chip, do what pulling I need done, then deprogram it and not have to spend the extra money on higher octane gas.
