What kind of torque and hp numbers could I get out of a 302 using 9.08:1 pistons, a good cam, new 4 barrel intake and 4 barrel carb but running stock crank, and ported heads?
What kind of numbers for the 351m using new cam, intake, carb and pistons but running stock crank and ported heads?
leave the 351M where it is......although it's got a lot more torque than a 302....they have there problems and parts are hard to find...not much out there in the aftermarket world either as far as performance parts goes.
find a 300.00 351W in the srap yard and rebuild it.....you will be way ahead of the game....parts everywhere....way better motor then the M
There are parts for the 351M, but the only way to go with that is to stroke it to a 400 using the 400 crank. Then you'll need pistons, the only set out there that has the proper pin height are available here on FTE from TMI enterprises. But even after you do that, using the open chambered 2 bbl heads, you still have pinging issues from the open chambers. Two intakes available for the 351M/400--Edelbrock Performer 400 and the Weiand 8010. Lots of cams and valvetrain parts, they use the same stuff the Clevelands did. Two other head options-- the Aussie 2 bbl quench heads and Edelbrock RPM heads for the Cleveland (but at nearly 2 grand, they're not cheap) There's also the 4 bbl Cleveland quench heads, but no intakes to fit these on a 400 block.
The 351C is a killer motor, far better than a stock Windsor and worlds above a 351M. The "C" shares the same mounts and transmission bolt pattern with the 302 & 351W's. Exhaust will be different though.
Do you happen to know the hp and torque numbers for it stock? And how about with a good cam, port and polish heads, and higher compression pistons? Rough estimate for a built 351c.
The stock numbers were misleading. At that time Ford was underating the output due to the insurance companies cracking down on performance cars. Then in 72 they started to detune them all. I recall one 351 build using the stock 2 bbl heads and nothing more than a custom cam, a 4 bbl intake and carb, that put out 405 horses at the flywheel. You won't do that with a stock headed Windsor.
Go for the Clever my Man. For that price ya got all the torque ya need. But keep in mind that it is as heavy as a big block. But the weight helps ta make it bullet proof.
I'm jealous. Somebody give me one Please. Build it for low torque and it will pull with the big dog's. Build it for high rev's and strap yer self in She can go either way.
