I took a head and the intake off and underneath the intake the block was so clean it looked brand new. I took off a head and I know that somebody rebuilt it because of how clean it wasbut also all new gaskets. These are the pistons that are in it. Do you know if they are stock or performance?,[IMG]img]https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gallery/sizeimage.php?&photoid=149969&.jpg[/img][/IMG]

I pulled the other head off today and discovered that the head gasket was stock so I think they blew the other one and changed it. The head numbers are D0OE. Are these good heads. There was a number 69 on them to. Is this the year?

Looking at the websites given at the top of this forum it says the heads are 351w I think. But in big numbers on the head it says 302. I'm confused. The block number is C9OE-6015-C. What kind of block is it?

The firing order on the intake is 15426378 which is a 302 firing order.

Those are standard low compression pistons.
D0 = 1970 design.
C9 = 69 design but could be later due to revision -C.
I'd say it's probably a stock 70 model 302 from a Torino.

If the heads are D0OE's with 302 cast into them, they're std 302 heads, not the better 351 heads. Block casting number also is a std 302 block, but the "O" does not gaurantee it was from a Torino, the same block was used in all other Ford & Merc cars, trucks and vans that came with std 302's, from 1969 till Ford changed the block casting. The pistons between 70 and 72 are vastly different. The 72's had a deep dish(about a 1/4" deep), deeper than the ones in your pics, so it's a good bet that engine is naything from a 69 to a 71 motor. The date code next to the casting number will tell exactly when the block was cast.

This motor is going to be a low rpm torque monster and I need a cam for that. I want most torque possible for less than $200. The operating rpm is idle to 4,000.

My D0OE 302 heads I ported.....first set I ever did....

Click here... D0OE

just to let you know they should be Rail type rockers (valve stems are 1/4 longer) with press in studs....5? cc chambers and no hardened exaust seats...

I would port the exhaust side of the heads and run a rpm intake 204 214 cam long tube headers and more gear.....could even go smaller on the cam just don't go any bigger...the bigger you go with a 302 the higher up the rpm range it will want to run.

just don't get to crazy...keep it simple..

have a good one.....

Another thought beings that it is going to cost alot anyways would getting the 351M and boring it out, putting the 400 crank, new pistons, port and polish heads and a new intake and big 4 barrel carb make a better low rpm torque motor than the 302? I guess it will cost alot either way so would the 351m be better?

You will need a new tranny too because the 351M/400 use the 429/460 bellhousing bolt pattern. So it will cost even more unless you get a good tranny with the 351M.
