Spring over axle conversion?

What are the advantages/disadvantages to doing a spring over axle conversion on an Explorer/Ranger? I figure it will be the cheapest way to get about 5-6 inches of lift in the back, and I could do a SAS up front.

Advantage: lift without banana shaped leafs

Dis-advantage: less axle control, more wrap associated with SOA configurations.

Expectations of 5-6 inches is a little high with just a SOA on an axle with a 3" tube, but you will get a considerable heigth increase.
