Twin I beam

To put dics brakes on a 1970 f100 2wd, could you use a E150 ford van 2wd with dics brakes and use the twin I beams from the van.

No, The Van axles will not work, the spindles might for a kingpin out exchange.

See if Bill the n word dummy has parts numbers for both spindles.

I guess I need to read the disc swap article to see how involved it is.

Question twin I beams

John, what is the differance on the van axles ? Are they longer or shorter than the PU axles ? The reason I wonder is because some of the van axles I have seen are straight on the ends instead of dropped like the PU axles. Looks like they might be a nice way to get about 2 1/2 inches of lift in the front.....how differant are they ? DF, on work's old 'puter

Van axles are longer than a pickup because the van wheels set further apart.

Be careful on the spindles too - I have never verified but I thought I've heard that the vans are 'front steer' rather than 'rear steer' so the spindles are different????

Swap spindles from left to right and right to left to convert front to rear steer.

I couldn't say for sure since I don't know all the exact specifics for these particular spindles but typically its not that simple (switching left for right to change from front steer to rear steer). There is a lot of geometry involved in any front suspension/steering system and doing that will normally throw some things 'out of wack'.

Again, I repeat, I don't know all the specifics on these spindles but typically that can cause some problems.

That would be too easy, camber would be the big "if" it would work.
It would be intresting if someone would do a dry run check on this.

I have two project going, need engine and transmission for 1957 f 100 2wd and a 1970 f100 2wd that I would like to put dics brakes on. I was think a pre 1986 e van would have the both I need. And wrecked vans should be cheap.

I guess I wasn't too concerned about camber - I think that should be the same. I would look real close at caster and ackerman though.

I wouldn't think junk vans are any cheaper than pickups of the same vintage.......and we know the pickup parts interchange just fine!!! (pre-'79 that is)
