I got 5 gallons of the final charge so I have to wait till wal-mart restocks and get another 3 before I can do my flush...I also picked up a bottle of prestone super raditor flush...anyone know if the prestone is ok to use ?

Can the Prestone "Flush N Fill" kit be used to back flush the entire cooling system using the garden hose-I've used these for years in gassers--I like the idea--then remove the block drains and radiator petcock to drain completely??

It never drains completely, even pulling the block plugs. You'd still have to run several gallons of distilled through it to flush the tap water out that's full of minerals.

IMHO, I'd just drain, pull the 'stat, fill full of distilled, run the engine for a few minutes, drain, repeat, reinstall 'stat, then fill with 50/50 of your favorite flavor.....

I had the same problem at wally world, i went to 2 of them and got 8 gallons. It also sold both out. Just use water to flush everything out, makes life much easier nto having to worry about the radiator flush stuff in your block.

BTW, that would be an excellent time to install the billet 'stat housing, 203* 'stat, and upper hose that goes *AROUND* the serpentine belt... After I get caught up on the mods I have waiting to install now I'll do those with the coolant filter, which is next on the list...

Yes Sir
I think I will order the stat and housing so that I can have it for the weekend project. Gauges will be the next project. Boost and egt I guess. I have a manual (transmission). Would there be a 3rd that I should install? I was looking on egauge to see what they had to offer. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, cause this is just my work truck.. I hope to have the cash to buy a 2003 7.3 for christmas...

Now go ahead and schedule those mods Sergeant...NOW

No need for the "sir" stuff... Regarding gauges, it's up to you for the third and/or forth, but fuel pressure & oil temp are good choices...

I've got nice, filtered. softened shallow well water that I would use to do the flush and fill kit with few times, then add the coolant systen cleaner, then run for a while then flush again with the kit, then again with distilled water, then drain as much as possible, then add the Red Wally Mart BIG RIG coolant (after changing the TStat, housing, and installing the Diesel site coolant filter)
Think this is OK?? Thanks!

You do not need a coolant filter with ELC. See this thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...m-rebuild.html

After reading that it says that if you don't have one already, don't add it; but if you do have one, put in a "blank" filter (i.e. one that does NOT have SCAs added to the filter, just basically paper, metal & a rubber ring)

I was glad to read that as I was about ready to order more coolant filters and now I don't need to!
