i would have to agree with MRXLH on good up keep of the truck... that is key for me beacause i do not plan to trade it in at 100k nor do i plan to buy a new 40k truck every 5 years...so i bought a amsoil by-pass system for my truck...i dont run there oil as i am not into the extended drain interval...just want to keep my oil as clean as possible for the 5k i run it. but i will tell you this the kit for 130 is the awesome...quality is great. And there is no canister to drop and make a mess..just spin if off every 10k and thrown it away and spin a new one on...
We have been beating alot of things to death here lately, one I don't mind taking another crack at it this......................"unfiltered engine oil from the pan is used to fire the injectors" that is a quote from someone elses posted article ont he HEUI injection system used on our trucks. By pas filtration systems do work. I even told Jeff they did 3 years ago, as did Tim. He now knows that they work as do several others here. Wish brings up another good mod. I still think the fass fuel system or at least the fuel crossover mod, would be the first "no gain'" performance wise mod, then the coolant filter then the bypass oil filter.
Whats up Ryan? Great posts. Im a newbie to the desiel world and just purchased a 2005 FX4 REGENCY Ford with 4 inch lift, rims, all the goods, done by REGENCY and under warranty. The truck came with A banks six gun tuner with PDA, 4 inch monster exhaust and kicks ***. The previous owner told me he used a synthetic oil (no mention of brand) and wanted to know what your thoughts were on synthetic vs. dino oil in the desiel? I also plan on purchasing the airraid intake soon to help it out a little more.

Well I'll give you the short version. These are my opinions, and others may not share them, however if you use the search block in this forum, you will find endless opinions.
Ditch the Banks before it tears the truck up. Way to many people running the 6 gun have reported here of exactly what it tears up, as well as how expensive it costs to fix when the warranty is voided. SCT with custom tuned files for your style of driving is hands down the safest way to go. Still there is no gaurantee of "no risk" but far fewer problems have been mentioned running the SCT, weather it be the "canned tunes" that come with the tuner, or custom tunes from various shops.
Put the stock, yes I said stock intake system back on. It is plenty capable of supporting adaquate flow over 500HP as long as the filter is clean, and nothing on the market filters better.
Synthetic oil is fine if you can afford it, using CJ-4 rated dino changing every 5k will suffice just fine. Syn shears really close to the same rate as dino in this viscosity spectrum, so its hard to increase Oil Change interval to make it pay for itself. The necessarry oil analysis to strech it becomes very cost prohibitive. Almost to the point that you could change at 3-3.5k and still be cheaper than the syn. Hope this helps.
"Ditch the Banks before it tears the truck up" man i have never heard this. I have been reading all the goods about the Banks and all the bads about all the other aftermarket chips. I don't hot rod my truck, only use it to tow a toy hauler. I have never set the banks past 3 out of the possible 7 settings. What is bad about it? Thanks for the info.
It being an "inline device" ignores alot of other components when hp and torque are raised and not properly compensated for. BlackHat620 posted a really in-depth writeup of the "whys and hows" in another thread just a few days ago. The thread didn't take long for several to chime in on what problems they had running the 6 gun. Read all about it here...https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...nks-6-gun.html
The link is in the above post, as I had to go find it and then edit the post. Running on level 3 probably wont create issues, and if it is what you like, by all means keep it. However be aware all performance mods come with strings attached.
also dont forget to use only racor OEM filters..wal-mart has them in a motorcraft and fram box both the same racor filter one 5 dollars cheaper than the other.......also i use to run synthetic oil in mine but it got very costly so i found the best deal i think there is now...advance auto is now carrying motorcraft brand 15w40 made for the powerstroke truck....9.98 for 5 quarts makes it the best deal around....they also carry alot of other motorcraft stufff like the fuel filters...good maintinance is still the best mod u can do......
Change the oil every 5k, using oem racor filters, fuel filters every 15k using oem racor filters, Air filter every 30k using the oem synthetic blue media filter, tranny flush at 30k and external oem filter, then drain and refill pan and change external filter every 15k there after. After you have all of this down pat, and know a little more about the truck and their quirks, then go see Matt. He will steer you in the right direction. The less than a grand special (not by much) is xcal2, gauges, and muffler/cat delete.
This is to me the best advice your gonna get here.
