last week i changed back to my 6637 filter and when i was taking the box apart i took a look at my stock filter, and it looks as if some kind of oil or something was all over the pleats. now i just changed the filter about a month ago. what causes this, now i havent done the ccv mod and i am wondering how the ccv would affect this (if it even does) cause freah air is coming into the pleats and the ccv is on the opposite side of the filter (hope i am making sense) so any of you know whats going on?? or is this just real black road dust, but there is no dust around all the streets have been cleaned and i havent been down any dirt roads.
If you haven't done the CCV mod, when the truck shifts gears and you hear that cool whoosh, remember that is turbo backpressure, and it has to go somewhere. The path of least resistance is out through the filter, but, whats in the way, the ccv port and its pumping oily stuff, and smoke. so it gets on the inside of the filter.
At least that is my theory. "Final answer?" Final answer, Regis. " now lets find out if he won the $500.00"
My stock filter would get to looking completely oil soaked within a 2-3000 miles, but my AIS and 6.0 filters never have gotten oily even running them 40,000 miles.
I don't have a theory why, but that is what I observed.
i understand, but the oily looking substance is on the outside of the filter on the pleats,so if in fact it was from the turbo de pressurizing wouldnt i see oily residue on the inside of the filter too? but i dont, wierd huh? oh well it must just be dusty roads and what not.
Also, make sure that your OEM CCV connection is tight on the transition between your turbo inlet peice and your air intake tube. If that's leaking any, it will spew out oily-crappy-nasty-dirty-vaporous-yuk, and will eventually get EVERYTHING under your hood filthy (dont' ask me how I know this... just trust me).

hey you think if you had enough of an IC leak that there could be enough oil to drip in the valley and might look like something else is leaking??
reason i ask is that i have a little oil in the valley, near the front and middle only, and i cant seem to find a leak anywhere but i wiped the bottom of the boot the comes from the Y pipe to the foil covered IC pipe and my finger was covered in oil, now this leads me to believe that oil is leaking from that boot into the valley, what do you think about that??? is it possible

Do you still have the 6.0 intake setup on your 7.3?

I doubt it would be enough to actually accumulate a small puddle, the reason I say this is from the reports of people cleaning out there CAC after 100K or more and only having a teasoon of oil come out. I bet your are experiencing the beginnings of an o-ring failure on your oil port plugs, or if you have a hpxover then the orings under the bosses.
I had the same problem with the oil leak, and found bottom clamp on Y boot was a little loose. I had a K&N air flter and it had a big puddle in the valley. Installed Ford AIS and have not had any problems.
